The 40th BRIT Awards took place in London last night, and it’s safe to say it's one for the history books, but the award runners still have so much more work to do in regards to the talented female artists that were ignored this year.
Mabel won the Best Female Artist award after opening the show with her top 10 single ‘Don’t Call Me Up’, whilst Billie Eilish took home International Female Solo Artist, a well deserved win after her flawless performance of ‘No Time To Die’, the brand new James Bond theme song, which she performed alongside her brother Finneas, Hans Zimmer and Johnny Marr.
Celeste picked up the Rising Star award, formally known as the Critics Choice Award which has been won by Jorja Smith, Adele and Ellie Goulding in the past. She also performed her beautiful ballad ‘Strange’ before accepting her award.
With the incredible amount of talented women picking up awards this year, it’s hard to ignore the neglect of others across all categories. Not one female group was nominated for Best Group, and Yannis Philippakis from winning group Foals used his platform to state that “Hopefully next year we’ll see some more women in this category.”
