This week’s film recommendation is the harrowing psychological thriller We Need to Talk About Kevin. Eva (Tilda Swinton) gives up her life of travelling and fun to settle down and have a baby. However, motherhood does not seem to agree with her and Kevin’s (Ezra Miller) unusual behaviour troubles his mother daily. Lynne Ramsay creates a tragic story that centres around her grief.
Beginning with an unknown catastrophe, the story then cuts between key moments in Kevin’s life until this tragic moment. While looking into the life of this dysfunctional family and the story of We Need to Talk About Kevin is painful and often terrifying, it’s equally powerful with an ending that will leave you speechless.
